The fruit is also subject to a very gentle four-hour press, and the juice is fermented with natural yeasts (a rarity in Chablis). These traditional methods along with the hand harvesting, the quality of the terroir, the low yields (circa 35 hl/ha) and the full ripeness levels at which the fruit was harvested, helps to explain the fabulous texture, depth and quality that is on offer here. As always, a noticeable step up. There’s more lifted aromatics of ripe nectarine and yellow flowers, leading to a mouth-watering yet super seductive palate with pristine white peach kernel and salty deliciousness. With the support of a tight-knit circle of growers and a clear commitment to the estate’s original philosophy, they have ensured continuity—both in spirit and in quality. Under Virginie’s watch, the domaine hasn’t just survived; it has strengthened its standing, earning a coveted two-star rating in La Revue du Vin de France, just behind Raveneau and Dauvissat.

Philosophy

At Domaine Moreau-Naudet, everything begins in the vineyard. Farming across 26 hectares from Petit Chablis through to Grand Cru, the team works organically, ploughing soils by hand and applying only minimal organic treatments when required. There’s no chemical interference—no herbicides, insecticides or synthetic fertilisers—and harvest is done later than most in the region, in pursuit of optimal ripeness and textural depth.

In the cellar, the approach is equally precise. All fruit is whole-bunch pressed using a Champagne-style press for delicacy and purity, then fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts and a portion of fine lees. Élevage is extended well beyond the regional norm—up to 24 months, even for village wines—offering greater flesh, stability and definition. Stainless steel dominates for the entry-level wines, while old oak (never more than 30%, and always steamed, never charred) is introduced for Premier and Grand Crus. Bâtonnage is minimal, sulphur is kept low, and the wines emerge as layered, mineral, and full of personality—benchmark Chablis with nothing formulaic about them.

Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Bright and mineral
Grapefruit zest, crushed shell, acacia blossom and a hint of flint.

PALATE
– Textural and precise
Stone fruit, key lime and subtle salinity wrapped in leesy texture and taut acidity.

FINISH
– Delicate and long
Sapid, stony and persistently fresh, with citrus and chalk lingering.

Finer Details
Style - White
Varietal - Chardonnay
Country - France
Region - Chablis
Vintage - 2023
Bottle Size - 750ml
ABV - 12.5%

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/files/bd2fe4cd-9496-4426-bc11-069935f2d49e.jpg?v=1750911977
domaine-moreau-naudet-petit-chablis-2023
Domaine Moreau-Naudet Petit Chablis 2023

Product Description:

Bright, mineral and beautifully composed. The 2023 Domaine Moreau-Naudet Petit Chablis captures the purity and precision that define the estate’s style. The domaine works with mature vines rooted in the region’s characteristic shallow, stony soils over Kimmeridgian marl, a foundation that contributes the marine and mineral character associated with traditional Chablis. Fruit from younger vines is excluded, helping maintain concentration and consistency across the cuvée. The domaine’s approximately one-hectare holding lies within the Chapelot sector, close to the Grand Cru hillside and separated from Les Blanchots by a narrow ravine. The vineyard includes mature vines around 50 years of age rooted in shallow Kimmeridgian limestone and marl soils with blue-clay veins. Its sheltered exposure and mineral-rich terroir give the wine an impressive combination of ripeness, structure and freshness. The 2024 displays the breadth associated with Montée de Tonnerre while retaining a firm, chalk-driven core and distinctly saline character.

Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, while élevage incorporates tank, oak barrels and larger demi-muids over an extended period. The wine opens with citrus, orchard fruit and beeswax before revealing oyster-shell minerality, almond and subtle floral and peppery notes. Its palate is ample and vinous, yet energetic acidity and chalky structure prevent the ripe fruit from becoming heavy. Saline bitters add definition and length, with citrus and green-apple freshness running through the centre. The resulting wine combines generosity with precision and has the structure to develop considerable complexity with bottle age.

Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Complex, ripe and mineral
Beeswax, lemon oil, pear and Granny Smith apple with oyster shell, citrus peel, subtle almond and delicate floral nuances.

PALATE
– Ample, concentrated and energetic
Ripe orchard and citrus fruit carried by vibrant acidity, a taut chalky core and finely textured mineral structure.

FINISH
– Long, saline and precise
Persistent citrus, green apple, mineral bitters and oyster-shell salinity build into a focused, mouth-watering conclusion.

Reviews & Accolades
“The 2024 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is a success, opening with notes of beeswax, lemon oil and pear mingled with Granny Smith apple and oyster shell. If this lacks some of the power of traditional Montée de Tonnerre, it is guaranteed to please those looking for a wine more focused on elegance than power. This will open up in three to five years and improve for at least a decade after that.” — Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, 94 Points

Finer Details:
Brand - Domaine Moreau-Naudet
Style - White Wine
Varietal - Chardonnay
Country - France
Region - Burgundy
Appellation - Chablis
Vintage - 2024
ABV - 13%
Size - 750ml
Classification - Premier Cru

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/files/71e0f304-e6ad-4fbc-9737-3fe1fbd5c0ed.webp?v=1792489081
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/collections/french-vineyard_Armand_Rousseau.jpg?v=1792629957
